Who We Are

The Neglected Tropical Diseases Coalition is a 'coalition of coalitions' representing:
  1. Large-scale global health initiatives targeting the Neglected Tropical Diseases.1
  2. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations which help coordinate and implement these initiatives.
  3. Donor organizations, agencies, pharmaceutical companies and advocacy groups that support them.2

What We Do

Formally established in 2005, the Neglected Tropical Diseases Coalition (NTDC) serves as a forum where NTD-focused organizations can work together - especially to coordinate their advocacy, implementation and resource mobilization efforts. The primary purposes of the NTDC are to build awareness, support and commitment among global policy makers and funding organizations and to assist the constituent partners in their efforts to integrate and harmonize NTD control efforts.

Guiding Principles

Stimulated by availability of the FY06 U.S. appropriation for an integrated response to NTDs, the NTDC has identified attributes and principles it most values for organizations administering such funds; these are
  • Technical understanding of the NTDs and programs being implemented to control them.
  • Experience with implementing integrated NTD programs and an understanding of the principles and potential pitfalls of program integration.
  • Record of working effectively with key partners and within complex partnerships. (including WHO, technical agencies, Ministries of Health, NGOs, donors)
  • Provision to establish a Technical Advisory/Oversight Group.
  • Capacity for monitoring program progress. (i.e., process indicators)
  • Capacity for evaluating program impact and cost-efficiency.
  • Financial management expertise and sound reputation. (accountability, transparency, low administrative/overhead costs, efficient distribution of funds to field programs)
  • Capacity for mobilizing additional complementary or matching donations from local, international and/or bilateral donors.
